- Single Stream Recycling
Single Stream Recycling has come to Lewiston. More materials can be recycled with no need to presort before putting your bins out. Your collection day and routine of placing garbage and recyclables curbside will remain the same.
You may continue to use your blue tote if you prefer, though some regular recyclers have told us that these totes are sometimes too small. A standard container (36 gallons) with a lid is recommended. We will provide a sticker label that you can place on the outside of your preferred recycling container. Even if you change to a new container, the blue tote can still be used when you need extra space. View our Accepted Materials for Recycling List and our Items Not Accepted as Recyclable List to learn about what items we can and cannot accept.
Pamphlets, recycle stickers for your recycle container, and other information on the Single Stream Recycling Program are available through many community groups and nonprofit organizations as well as at the following locations:
Every ton we recycle saves the city $42.50 (or $34,000 per year) at the city’s current recycling rate, providing tax relief for us all.
